Every parent wants their child to grow up healthy, but parents can only choose healthy meals when healthy options are available, affordable, and accessible.

For many California families, dining out is a regular part of life. Busy schedules, long commutes, and limited time make restaurant meals a practical option. In some communities,  chain restaurants are also just more accessible than grocery stores that offer affordable, nutritious foods.

SB 977 provides a simple, commonsense solution. By ensuring that large chain restaurants of 20 or more locations nationwide offering children's meals provide at least one option that meets nutrition standards, the bill simply gives families choices when dining out.

This practical measure will expand access to nutritious foods, and make it easier for families to choose meals that support their children's long-term health.

California has long been a leader in advancing children's health. I respectfully urge you to sign SB 977 and continue that leadership by helping make healthier restaurant meals available to children across our state.
