HELPING PEOPLE ACCESS HEALTHY FOOD

How we advocate for healthier food access—so more people can live longer, healthier lives.

Our nutrition policy priorities support:

  • Making healthier options at restaurants more available.
  • Providing clear menu icons identifying items high in sodium and added sugars.
  • Increasing access to fruits and vegetables for patients, families and students.
  • Ensuring all students have access to healthy school meals.
  • Reducing sugary drink consumption through proven, community-centered policies.

ABOUT THE NUTRITION POLICY ACTION CENTER

Eating well supports heart and brain health at every age. But for many families, healthier options simply aren’t accessible—unhealthy foods and drinks are often cheaper and more available, while nutritious options can be harder to find or afford.

The American Heart Association works in states and communities across the country to advance strong nutrition policies. Our goal is simple: make healthy food more accessible and affordable where people live, learn, work and eat—especially in rural areas and other communities where affordable grocery options are limited. When advocates speak up, we can help create food environments that support longer, healthier lives.
