Working to build more walkable cities in Montana
April 8, 2026
April is National Move More month. Daily physical activity is an important part of a heart healthy lifestyle. We are working to make sure our cities and towns are safe and healthy places to move around so physical activity can be part of our daily routine.
We believe that whenever possible communities should be a place where people can safely walk, bike or roll. But too often, cities and towns are designed with only cars in mind. The American Heart Association, along with other community groups, are working to help cities implement Complete Streets policies so walkers, bikers, and all types of transportation users can get around safely.
A Complete Streets policy is more than just sidewalks. These plans consider the needs of all users, prioritize underserved communities, and involve proactive planning and coordination.
We are working with communities across Montana to help them create and pass policies that will make our streets safer. In turn, communities become healthier, happier, and more livable spaces for all.
You can help! Tell us about your neighborhood – is it safe and easy for you to walk, bike and otherwise get around? Do you wish your neighborhood was more connected to other parts of the community? Email us, and let us know!
