The Work Continues

While the federal government is shut down, the state government keeps working! Governor Lombardo has announced he will call the Legislature back into session at some point (they normally wouldn’t convene again until 2027) to deal with what was left “unfinished” during the 2025 session. They are expected to address a variety of budget issues including potential Medicaid cuts, implementing work requirements into the Medicaid tracking system, as well as the implications of the Federal shut down on state programs like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The state Attorney General has joined with other states in suing the Trump Administration to release emergency funds at the federal level while the state looks at options to provide funds and assist food banks in filling the gap during the shutdown.

In the meantime, we are following the work of interim committees and regulatory changes to finish our Cardiac Emergency Response Plan efforts, planning for the 2027 legislative session, and looking at opportunities on the local level to move our policy goals forward.
