Stand Up to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke
We’ve made major progress to fight heart disease and stroke over recent years.
Despite this remarkable progress recent projections show that 61% of the U.S. population will live with the challenges of cardiovascular disease by 2050. If we want to continue the momentum we’ve made in heart and brain health in this country, we must continue to support public health programs that help prevent, detect and manage chronic diseases.
The Trump Administration’s most recent budget proposal eliminates the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the Center for Disease Control (CDC). The programs within this center at the CDC work with state and local governments to prevent and detect chronic diseases—such as heart disease and stroke—early and deliver measurable returns on investment while also saving lives. This Center also provides support for state and local public health programs. This would undercut efforts to fight chronic disease and increase heart and brain health in this country.
