Protecting Texas’ Investment in Brain Health Research
September 18, 2026
When Texans came together to support Proposition 14 last November, they voted to invest in a healthier future. The American Heart Association supported this effort because heart health and brain health are deeply connected. Many of the same factors that increase the risk of heart disease and stroke can also affect brain health and increase the risk of dementia. Research helps us better understand these connections and develop new ways to prevent disease, improve early detection and advance treatments.
That’s why we’re continuing to stand up for the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT). This week, the American Heart Association and Alzheimer’s Association filed an amicus brief supporting the voter-approved initiative and urging the court to allow it to move forward.
Advocates like you helped build the momentum behind this historic investment in research. Now, we’re working to protect that progress so researchers can focus on delivering discoveries that benefit Texas families.
