Looking ahead

As we head into fall, there is speculation that the Governor will call a special session. If called it will be focused on dealing with the impact of federal budget cuts . The Heart Association is ready to show strong support for protecting Medicaid and SNAP programs and we will be in touch if we need your help to protect these vital programs.

Meanwhile, planning for the regular 2026 legislative session is underway! We will be closely monitoring the budget to ensure funding for the tobacco control and SNAP programs remain whole. In addition, we are considering legislation to ensure schools have cardiac emergency response plans in place and provide local jurisdictions with the authority to restrict the sale of flavored tobacco products.
