Indiana Takes Bold Step Toward Saving Lives with HB 1515
On a powerful day for public health in Indiana, Governor Mike Braun signed House Bill 1515 into law, championed by Senator Linda Rogers and Representative Bob Behning. This forward-thinking legislation will ensure that every school has a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP) in place—not just for sports fields, but for theatres, gyms, band rooms, and anywhere our students pursue their passions.
Why HB 1515 Matters
When cardiac emergencies strike, every second counts. HB 1515 requires Indiana schools to be prepared with plans tailored to each place that student activities occur. From Friday night football games to afternoon band rehearsals, every space will now have a protocol for fast, potentially life-saving action.
Advocacy in Action
This milestone didn’t happen overnight, it was powered by the passion, expertise, and determination of individual advocates and partners, including:
• The American Heart Association, a longstanding advocate for cardiac care, stood firm in support.
• Project Adam, providing medical expertise and best practices for school emergency readiness.
• The Play for Jake Foundation, founded in memory of Jake West, a young athlete lost too soon, continues to be a voice for awareness and prevention.
• The Indianapolis Colts, whose presence underscores the importance of this legislation and highlights the critical link between athletic programs and preparedness.
The collective efforts of these partners were instrumental in building momentum for this life-saving legislation.
