Great session in Delaware this year!
We’re proud to share with you the American Heart Association’s latest policy and advocacy work in Delaware. As we wrap up the 2025 legislative season, we’re energized by what’s next. But first—let’s recap and celebrate the victories that you—our amazing Heart Powered advocates—helped make happen.
💌 2025 Session Overview
Thanks to the tireless efforts of our advocates, staff, community partners, and legislative champions, we secured major wins for heart health and wellness in Delaware.
🏫 Healthy School Breakfast for All
Delaware has taken a bold step toward ensuring every child starts their day with the nutrition they need to thrive. The passage of the Healthy School Breakfast for All bill means students across the state will have access to free, nutritious breakfasts—fueling their bodies and minds for learning and growth. Thank you bill sponsor Rep. Kimberly
Thank Governor Meyer today for putting heart health and safety first!
🏈 Athletic Emergency Action Plan Bill—A Lifesaving Win
In a crucial move to improve cardiac emergency preparedness, the Delaware General Assembly passed legislation requiring all schools with athletic programs to implement Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for cardiac arrest events. The bill also requires:
- CPR, First Aid, and AED training for all coaches
- Clearly marked, unlocked AEDs at athletic events and venues
- Regular AED maintenance and registration with state emergency services
This is a crucial step toward ensuring that when sudden cardiac arrest strikes—whether on a football field or in a gym—everyone present is prepared to act quickly and confidently to save a life.
While the bill has been signed so school athletic programs can begin developing their plans, a public signing ceremony will take place sometime in the fall. Stay tuned for more details!
📌 Work That Continues
While we celebrate these wins, our work is far from over. We’re continuing to monitor and support efforts that expand cardiac emergency preparedness to all Delaware school buildings, protect Delawareans from tobacco-related harm, and expand and protect access to care.
