Heart Attack and Stroke Symptoms

Great advances in policy in Pennsylvania!

A lot has been happening in Harrisburg, and we have seen success this legislative session.  Some highlights include:

Stroke Registry legislation, Senate Bill 411, was signed by Governor Shapiro on June 30th! We’ve worked on this issue over multiple legislative sessions and this year we found success thanks in large part to the support of our advocates and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

In addition, we’ve seen good progress on cardiac emergency response plans (CERPs) legislation. Both Senate Bill 375 and House Bill 191 have advanced through each chamber and have been voted on and approved! We now await Governor Shapiro’s signature.

Both bills require a school entity to have an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) present at all Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association events. The picture above is from our Smart Heart Sports Advocacy Day, with Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, National Football League Vice President of Government Affairs, Ken Edmonds, American Heart Association State Government Relations Director Brad Cary, cardiac arrest advocate Spencer Davis, and his family.

Finally, we are continuing our efforts to advance these issues:

  • Paid Family Medical Leave – House Bill 200
  • Smoke-free Indoor Air – House Bill 880
  • Establishing a PA Food Bucks Program – House Bill 1096

Thank you for your hard work and we are counting on your continued efforts to help us change the future of health!
