Building a Nation of Lifesavers in Kansas

If someone collapsed in front of you, would you know how to start administering CPR?
For many people, the answer is no, not because they don’t care, but because they believe CPR is only for trained professionals. During CPR and AED Awareness Week, we wanted to remind you that the American Heart Association is committed to passing legislation in Kansas that requires all 911 dispatchers to provide CPR instructions over the phone.
This skill, known as Telecommunicator CPR (TCPR), is easy to implement and empowers parents, caregivers, neighbors, and coworkers to act confidently in the event of a cardiac emergency.
Cardiac arrest can happen at home, at work, or in your neighborhood. When it does, immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. Yet half of Kansas counties lack dispatchers trained in TCPR. That’s why we will continue to advocate for legislation in 2027.
