And that’s a wrap on the 2026 Legislative Session[
April 2, 2026
The Washington State legislative session has ended. I want to share an update on the outcomes for our top priority issues and take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your advocacy throughout the session.
Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERPs) – SB 6118
The CERPs bill (SB 6118) did not make it past the cutoff deadline to move forward this session. While this is disappointing, it is far from the end. Thanks to your calls, emails, and stories, we elevated the importance of cardiac emergency preparedness in schools, built new legislative champions, and laid important groundwork for future success. We are already preparing to bring this issue back next session, and your continued engagement will be essential.
Tobacco Tax
The proposed tobacco tax increase did not advance this session. We expect this issue to remain part of ongoing conversations about public health and sustainable state revenue.
School Meals Revenue Update
Finally, lawmakers approved new revenue streams aimed at expanding access to universal school meals. These investments are a step forward, but additional policy work next session will be necessary to fully realize and sustain true universal meal coverage for all students.
And so that’s a wrap on this year’s session. Thank you again for everything you’ve done — your advocacy truly matters.
We’ll keep you updated on interim work, next steps, and opportunities to make an impact.
