2025 Mid-Session Update

As we near the halfway point in the 2025 legislative session we want to give an update on our priority issues.

  • Free School Meals for All: Every child deserves a healthy start in life and that means having enough food to eat. Building on our past progress we had hoped to finish the job and secure free school meals for all students. The legislature is currently exploring a step-wise approach that would dedicate additional funding but would not formalize a universal schools meals policy in statute. We are closely monitoring their work and will continue to collaborate with partners to build to free school meals for all.
  • Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERPs): We started the session with hopes to pass legislation that would ensure schools have response plans in place for cardiac arrest events on campuses. While a bill introduced does not meet our recommended guidelines, we continue to work with partners and legislators to find a path forward so all schools are prepared to respond if a cardiac event happens on school grounds.
  • Defending the Clean Indoor Air Act: Nevada’s Clean Indoor Air Act is not comprehensive, leaving many workers exposed to secondhand smoke. Now the cannabis industry has introduced a bill seeking additional carveouts that would allow cannabis consumption lounges. The American Heart Association opposes indoor smoking of any product, and we are working to defeat this bill.
