Stand Up to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke
We’ve made major progress in the fight against heart disease and stroke in recent years. Fewer lives are being cut short, and more people are living longer, healthier lives.
Despite these advancements, recent projections show that more than 60% of the U.S. population will live with the challenges of cardiovascular disease by 2050. If we want to continue the momentum we’ve made in heart and brain health in this country, we must continue to support public health programs that help prevent, detect and manage chronic diseases.
The President’s recent budget proposal would eliminate the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The programs within this CDC center provide crucial resources to state and local governments to prevent and detect chronic diseases—such as heart disease and stroke—delivering measurable returns on investment while also saving lives. Eliminating this center would undercut efforts to fight chronic disease and improve heart and brain health in this country.
