Front-of-Package Labels Will Help People Make Healthier Choices 📧

The Nutrition Facts label on the back of food and beverage packages provides consumers with helpful nutrition information like calories, saturated fat, sodium and sugar. Studies show it helps those who use it make healthier choices. But the problem is that most people don’t use it.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed placing a new type of label on the front of food and beverage packages that contains simple, easy-to-understand nutrition information, making it easier and quicker to compare products and make healthier choices.

This new type of label – known as front-of-package (FOP) nutrition labeling – would appear on most food and beverage products. The proposed label would highlight three nutrients that most people eat too much of: saturated fat, sodium and added sugars. The label would show how much of each nutrient the product contains AND help interpret that information by marking the amount as “high,” “medium” or “low.”

The new proposal for front-of-pack labeling is just a proposal – and the FDA is interested in hearing from consumers what YOU think about it.

Share your thoughts with the FDA. Tell the FDA you support a simple, easy way to identify healthier foods like front-of-pack nutrition labeling.

The provided text is only a suggestion. You may use the text in your response to FDA, but you are strongly encouraged to share YOUR thoughts. Tell FDA what YOU think of the proposed front-of-pack label.
