Local leaders recognize Heart Month
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser formally recognized February 2026 as American Heart Month through a proclamation highlighting heart disease as the number one cause of death in the United States and in the district. Board member Erin Henderson Moore went on ABC 7 DC to talk about the importance of recognizing Heart Month and women’s heart health.
The Prince William County Board of Supervisors also proclaimed February Heart Month in the region. County Chair Deshundra Jefferson presented the proclamation to Olivia Pacheco, who accepted it on behalf of the Association as a survivor, volunteer and county resident.
On Wear Red Day, board member Yolandra Hancock, M.D., M.P.H went on Fox 5 DC to talk about Heart Month, our policy work and heart disease warning signs all women should know. Dr. Hancock also talked heart health with an interview on The Senior Zone radio show.
