Fall is shaping up to be busy
The Legislature is expected to hold a special session in November, focused around budgets, a possible crime bill, and Medicaid changes that will impact services and budgets. These negotiations will take place as the Governor negotiates his priorities with Democrat leadership in the Legislature. Making this extra complicated is the fact that the top three members of legislative leadership are expected to announce their retirement prior to the next election.
In addition to navigating a special session we are working with the Department of Education and to ensure legislation on Cardiac Emergency Response Plans passed in 2025 meets our policy goals concerning implementation, and the possibility we may have to come back to the issue to ensure AED placement in schools and athletic facilities are included.
We are also exploring opportunities to improve tobacco control program funding with our coalition partners, as well as finding resources to support summer nutrition programs in the interim between Legislative sessions.
