Local Action, Statewide Impact: Scottsdale Youth Lead Tobacco Reform

The Arizona Legislature is currently out of session and will reconvene on January 8. During the interim, we’re developing our 2026 legislative agenda, which will continue our Nation of Lifesavers work through proposed cardiac emergency response plans and ongoing efforts in tobacco control. We’re also finalizing our application for the 2026 Advocacy at the Capitol event and will share a save the date as soon as we know what day we will be taking to the Capitol!

Locally, we’re working with the Scottsdale Youth Advisory Council to amend the city’s smoke-free laws to include e-cigarettes. The city published a draft ordinance and conducted a public survey, which closed on August 25. The results will be presented at the September City Council meeting. Based on community engagement, we’re optimistic about the ordinance’s progress and hopeful it could be passed before the end of the calendar year. We’ll continue to keep everyone informed as things move forward.
